Li Wen

    Li Wen is a well-known Huangmei Opera performing artist, and is the main Huadan performer at the Anhui Province Huangmei Opera Theater. She has also been universally recognized by those both inside and outside Huangmei Opera circles as the third generation of Fairy Princess, and is the first Huangmei singer to hold a Masters degree. Li Wen’s stage presence is charming and elegant, her voice sweet and moving, and her performances are lavish and refreshing. Some of her most notable pieces are Marriage of the Fairy Princess, The Emperor’s Son-in-Law, Teasing the Peony, Sadness and Happiness Destined, Papayas Are in Season, Huimin Bay, and so on.

    Li Wen’s performance style is skillfully balanced and extremely lifelike, her singing voice rich and mellow. Li Wen’s Huangmei Opera is based on traditional singing styles combined with scientific vocalization methods, producing a sound that retains the simplistic charm of Huangmei Opera’s original style, but at the same time has a more modern and fresh feel as well. Her powerful yet soothing voice is full of vigor, earning her the nicknames “golden voice of Huangmei” and “angelic voice of Huangmei”.

    Li Wen has earned many artistic honors and awards, such as the prestigious Plum Blossom Award of Chinese theater; the Wen Hua Performance Award; the Outstanding Performer Award, presented at the Chinese opera television drama broadcast exhibition; in 1998 at the first Yan Fengying Huangmei Opera Competition she received a gold prize; she also won silver at the first Chinese Opera Music Video Awards; Outstanding Performer Award at the second National Ethnic Minority Art Festival in 2001; gold at the National Opera Selected Piece Competition in 2002; and in 2000 after starring in the television drama series Papayas Are in Season she received many awards as well, including the Golden Eagle Award, the Flying Goddess Award, and the National Five One Project Award.
