Low Shao Suan and Low Shao Ying

    Twin sisters, Low Shao Suan and Low Shao Ying, studied piano with Yeo Bee Choo, Benjamin Loh and the late Ong Lip Tat, and they obtained their performance and piano accompanying diplomas from the Royal Schools of Music and the Trinity College of London. Graduates of the famed Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris - Alfred Cortot in Paris, they studied piano with the late Annie d'Arco and the late Julien Ridoret, chamber music with Chantal de Buchy, and harpsichord with Ilton Wjuniski. While in Paris, the sisters won prizes at music competitions, such as 2nd and 3rd prizes at the International Competition of U.F.A.M., and 1st prize at the Claude Kahn Piano Competition for piano duet.

Since their return to Singapore, Shao Suan and Shao Ying have performed as soloists numerous times with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestros Choo Hoey, Lim Yau, Lü Jia, Darrell Ang and Joshua Tan Kang Ming. They were also soloists with the Singapore Festival Orchestra under Maestro Virginia Martinez, the Hunan Symphony Orchestra (China) under Maestro Xiao Ming, as well as the European Baroque Chamber Ensemble in Porto, Portugal. In July 2012, the sisters' CD recording of Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Shui Lan, was released.

As avid composers and songwriters, Shao Suan and Shao Ying have written songs for Asian pop singers such as Jolin Tsai, Mink, Suzanne Hsiao Shu Shen, Chen Yi Yiand Vivian Hsu. Their instrumental compositions have also won awards at online competitions such as Broadjam, the 2007 and 2008 USA Songwriting Competition, and the 2005 and 2009 UK Songwriting Competition.

Shao Suan and Shao Ying are currently full-time piano accompanists at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore. They are also full members of the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore.
